Marketing leadership · Tasmania

Virtual CMO.

A marketing boss, part time. Senior thinking without a senior salary. Straight talk on what it costs.

Book a strategy session

Nobody is steering.

You’ve got an agency doing ads, someone’s nephew doing social, a web developer you haven’t spoken to since March, and a staff member who got handed marketing because they’re good at Canva.

Everyone’s busy. Nobody’s deciding. The ads don’t know what the website promised and the website doesn’t know what you actually want to sell more of.

That’s not an execution problem. That’s a missing marketing director, and you don’t have $180,000 a year to fix it.

A fractional CMO is that person, two days a month instead of twenty.

What a fractional CMO actually does.

Decides what you’re selling, to whom, and what you’re going to stop doing. The stopping is usually the valuable half.

Sets the budget and says where it goes. Puts a number on what a customer is worth to you, which is the figure every other decision hangs off.

Holds your suppliers to account. Agencies behave differently when someone on your side can read the report properly.

Builds the plan, then stays long enough to see whether it worked.

It isn’t someone to write your posts. If you need hands, you need a marketing coordinator, and we’ll tell you that instead of selling you this.

What you get.

  1. A strategy that fits on a page

If it needs a 40-slide deck to explain, nobody in your business will follow it.

  2. A budget with reasons attached

What goes where, and what we expect back. Reviewed quarterly, not admired annually.

  3. Your suppliers, managed

We read the agency reports so you don’t have to, and ask the questions you didn’t know to ask.

  4. The numbers that matter, named

What a lead costs, what a customer is worth, what you can afford to pay for one. Most businesses we meet know none of the three.

  5. Your team, coached

If you’ve got someone doing marketing in-house, they get a boss who knows the job. Usually they just needed permission and direction.

  6. Someone in the room

Monthly, in person where you want it. We’re in Hobart.

What you’ll actually spend.

The firms that publish a number put it at roughly $5,000 to $15,000 a month. That’s real, and for a business turning over tens of millions it’s a bargain.

It’s also most of a Tasmanian SME’s entire marketing budget, which is why almost nobody here buys it.

We’re in Hobart with Hobart overheads, and we scope this by the day rather than the retainer. A day a month is enough for a lot of businesses.

You’ll get the figure before you commit. No lock-in contract.

Who this is for.

Businesses turning over roughly one to twenty million, with marketing happening but nobody senior owning it.

Owners who’ve become the de facto marketing manager and want their week back.

Teams with a marketing coordinator who’s capable but needs someone to set direction and back them up.

Businesses about to spend real money on a rebrand, a new site or an expansion, who want someone to pressure-test it before the invoice lands.

If you’re a sole trader who needs the phone to ring, this isn’t it. Go and read the SEO page.

“I’ve worked with Aaron for nearly 10 years now… he helped us through a tricky transition period when our business situation changed, and went above and beyond to support us going forward, and we haven’t looked back!”

There are others.
Here’s the difference.

Tasmania already has good people doing this. A couple in Hobart, one or two further north, and at least one agency offering it alongside their design work. If one of them is the better fit for you, take it. We mean that.

What makes us different is what happens after the plan.

Most fractional CMOs advise, then hand the work to whoever you can find. We can run it ourselves, with the same people who wrote the strategy. The SEO, the ads, the site, the content. Nothing gets lost in a handover, because there isn’t one.

The flip side, and we’d rather say it than have you think it. An agency recommending work it also gets paid to do has a conflict of interest. So you get the plan with a cost against each piece, and an honest view on which bits you should take somewhere else.

Aaron has been doing this for Tasmanian businesses for over a decade, and one client has been with us nearly ten years. You get him, not a pitch from him and a junior on the account afterwards.

Questions we get asked.

Just need one channel sorted? SEO, Google Ads or web design.

An hour on what you’re selling, who to, and what’s actually in the way. You’ll leave with the plan whether you engage us or not.

Scoped by the day, not a mainland retainer. No lock-in contract.

Or just call us.

For companies and individuals who do not understand what SEO is or the importance that digital presence plays in today's society and the success of their business, they need to talk to Aaron and Tom at Wally.

Clear and concise explanations in a world filled with the mumbo jargon of the ever changing landscape of SEO algorithms.

To put it bluntly, you would do yourself and your business a total disservice if you didn't speak to the Wally team. They do not lock you into long term contracts and they have a simple goal of wanting you and your business to succeed.

We contacted Aaron last year when our Google business listing was virtually unfindable.

Previous attempts to improve our seo and boost our listing with other services had been unsuccessful but after meeting with Aaron and his team we knew we were in capable hands.

Their communication was clear and efficient, and they were able to tailor a professional website to our budget and needs.

Best of all our listing shot to the top three in a matter of months converting to more job leads.

I would recommend their services to anyone looking to grow their business
